Promises, Promises star Brooks Ashmanskas will be sad to see his Tony winning co-star, five months pregnant Katie Finneran, depart the show on October 10…mainly because (in the vein of his philandering character Mr. Dobitch) Ashmanskas jokingly claims he’s the child’s true dad! “I know I’m the father,” Ashmanskas recently quipped to Broadway.com. “Just wait until the baby comes out and we all see the face…that’s all I’m saying!” So did he and Finneran have a secret rendezvous at Chuck Baxter’s apartment one evening after a show? “Actually it was very early in the day,” he teased, “because I love taking my clothes off in the light.”
For the record, Finneran is happily expecting with her actor husband Darren Goldstein, who's Broadway-bound on September 20 in the musical Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson.
Although Ashmanskas and the Promises crew hate to bid Finneran farewell, he's enthusiastic about her replacement, former Saturday Night Live star Molly Shannon. “She’s a perfect choice,” Ashmanskas said. “She’s a 'name' who really fits the role. I love her and have no question she’s going to be great.” (No word on whether Ashmanskas plans to initiate any afternoon hanky-panky with Shannon, as well.)
